A memorial has been set up at the Oceanside Police Department for Danny Besant who was shot and killed Wednesday night. He was twenty-five-year-old and was shot while helping another officer with a traffic stop.

Oceanside police are getting closer to finding out how and why a 17-year-old boy allegedly gunned down the police officer in a sniper-style ambush. They also say they've detained another teenager in connection with the brutal murder.

Bessant leaves behind his wife and two-month-old son.

His death comes three and a half years after the death of Oceanside rookie police officer Tony Zepetella. He also left behind a wife and baby son.

The Oceanside Police Officers Association has established a Dan Bessant memorial fund at Washington Mutual. If you are interested in donating to the account the number is 313-3219879.
